Ireland in November 2019

Last November we hosted a family birthday celebration for my brother in Cedar City and then ended the month in Ireland for my mother-in-law's funeral, Philomena Penny. It was an overwhelming month, but this November we are self-isolating during an unexpected pandemic. Crazy times, but I have time to sort out photos.

Here are a few favorite scenic photos of Ireland from November 2020. We tried to take some walks to help us cope with the sadness of the occasion.

Walks along the Shannon River and in Limerick. It gets dark earlier because of the more northern latitude so this is about 4 p.m. 










Near a mill that has been converted to a restaurant near Limerick.

Limerick is warm enough in November that flowers were still blooming.

The sky was pretty gray so this has a bit of enhancement.

Manet and Degas at the Met in New York

 My art history knowledge is pretty basic, but I have always loved the ballerinas by Degas so for my birthday this year we went to the exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the special Manet/Degas exhibit.  They were friends and painted each other. Degas collected Manet's art, as he outlived him. It was a fascinating exhibit and very crowded so some of the angles on my photos are skewed. Thanks to Brian, Sandy, and Trey for coming with me to this exceptional exhibit.   This is the famous painting by Degas that was slashed by Manet and caused a rift between the friends for a time. It is of Manet on the couch and his wife playing piano.  Manet cut off his wife's face and the right part of the painting. It was exhibited next to Manet's painting of his wife below. Let us avoid “secret concerts”. This is a concert that your friends and family wanted to attend, but didn’t know about it. On the handout below the poster examples is a basic marketing plan for concerts. You can have a student or parent be in charge of publicity if you are overwhelmed. I am a big believer in communication to the students, to the parents, and to the community. The marketing research indicates that it takes 10 times seeing the publicity for an event for it to register. That’s why you need posters, flyers, social media posts, and emails to parents.
